"Do It Again" is a vocal composed past Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, performed by American rock group Steely Dan, which was released every bit a single from their 1972 debut album Tin't Buy a Thrill. The unmarried version differed from the album version, shortening the intro and outro and omitting the organ solo.

Released in 1972, the vocal debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 on November 18, 1972, and reached number vi on the US charts in 1973, making it Steely Dan'southward second highest-charting unmarried.[iii]

Vocal [edit]

"Do It Once more" features an electrical sitar solo by Denny Dias. The "plastic organ" solo past Donald Fagen was performed on a Yamaha YC-30 with a sliding pitch-bending control.[4]

David Palmer fronted the ring during their live show, and sang "Do Information technology Over again" when the group played The Midnight Special in February 1973. Donald Fagen sang the vocal on the album version.[5]

Greenbacks Box described it equally a "fine commercial effort with plenty of potential every bit a striking tape," going on to say that it "is highlighted past some fine song harmony and superb arrangement."[six]

  • In 1980, Waylon Jennings released a version of the song on his album Music Human being.[18]
  • In 1983, Italian group Club Business firm released "Practice It Once again Medley with Billie Jean," a mashup/medley of the rails with Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean".[xix] The song peaked at number 79 in Australia.[xx] It was later covered past the American studio group Slingshot.[nineteen]
  • Austrian vocaliser Falco covered the vocal on his 1988 album Wiener Blut.[21] His version was also released as a single.[22]
  • In 1997, Paul Hardcastle offered his version from the album Cover to Cover.[23]
  • In 2017, Lydia Tiffin and Cypress Grove covered the song on their album Nether the Covers.[24]
